Equipment for protoplast electroporation

Gene Pulser Xcell eukaryotic electroporation system

Gene Pulser Xcell eukaryotic electroporation system for the electroporation of most eukaryotic cells. It includes a capacitance extender module that makes possible plant protoplast electroporation.

This electroporation system generates both exponential decay and square waves pulses for optimal nucleic acid delivery, enabling to choose conditions that work best for different plant protoplast populations.

Depending on the waveform (exponential or square) chosen, different delivery parameters - including time constant, actual voltage applied, pulse interval, and pulse time - may be adjusted.

We also have access to a home-made electoporation apparatus from Guerche et al, 1987 (Biochimie 69:621-628)

The plexiglass electroporation chamber is equipped with two stainless steel electrodes, connected to the electrical system. The generator is an ISCO 490 power supply coupled two several 16 µF capacitors: the charged capacitors are fully discharged into the electroporation cuvette within 200 ms.
